To Begin Setting up Microsoft Authenticator for your School Account, you will need both your cell phone and your computer, with an internet connection.

OnYour PC




Open Google Chrome


Go to:   https://aka.ms/mfasetup
Use your Piedmont Technical College Email address.

* Student Example: P00000000@live.ptc.edu

The PTC Sign-in Page will open.

Use your student credentials to sign in. This is your student ID or P# and the


password you use to log into Pathway.


 Example:   P00000000     and PTC password
You will be prompted to provide additional information for verification purposes.
Setting up the Microsoft Authenticator App


Click NEXT
























Click NEXT














Keep this QR Code open on your computer. 

You will need it when you are ready to add your account to the app on your phone.



Next: You will need your cell phone.

1.)Go to your device's app store (such as the App Store for iOS or the Google Play Store for Android).











2.)Search for "Microsoft Authenticator" and install the app.













3.)Once you locate the app, click GET or INSTALL



Adding Account to MS Authenticator App
1. Click the Plus


2. Choose Work or School Account


3. Choose Scan QR Code

4. Return to the QR  image you have on your PC.

5. Scan it

*Note: Depending on your current phone settings you may need to set up or enable one or more of the following.
*Grant the app permission to use your camera to scan the QR code.
*Enable push notifications to approve access.
*Enable app lock to secure the MS Authenticator app. ( This refers to the security method you should already be using on your phone. ie: Face ID, Fingerprint, Patterns, or PIN Codes. 


On the Microsoft My Sign Ins Page

1. Select the Security Info Tab

2. Click the Add sign-in method
3. Choose a method
Be sure to select your default sign-in method choice.

Best options may vary based on your device 
Should you replace your device or change your phone number, you should delete the method you no longer use or need.
